As much a frequently given answer as a frequently asked question, we regret to say that we're not based in Byron Bay. Byron Employment takes its name from Byron Media Pty Ltd, and by the time we realised we'd created one of Australia's most popular Internet employment sites the name had pretty much stuck. We tried at one stage to migrate the site to jobmail.com.au, but the vast majority of the traffic continued to come in to the byron.com.au domain name.
Unique among major Australian employment listing services, BE allows recruiters to list positions directly on our own database while at the same time providing links to positions on third party services like SEEK, MyCareer and CareerOne. In this way we are able to bring candidates the widest possible selection of available positions, all accessible from the one site.
When you search the BE database to access a list of links to relevant positions, the links are listed in reverse chronological order (ie the most recent at the top), with the positions listed directly on the BE site at the top, and links to third party sites underneath, again in reverse chronological order.
BE is first and foremost a job listing service, and we don't have the skills or resources to provide individual assistance to candidates in finding a job. We don't like to recommend particular recruitment agences as we don't have the experience of being a candidate with all of them, so we will usually recommend that you review our Recruiter Database to find one that can meet your particular needs.
There are two situations in which this can occur. Where the expired message is displayed on the BE site, the link you are trying to access will almost invariably be from a Jobmail message that is a couple of days old. The position will have been removed from our database since the Jobmail email was sent, leading to the expired message.
The other possibility is that the link is still recorded as active on the BE site, but has been removed from the third party site, which is generating the expired message. Links to third party sites are automatically updated a minimum of once every twenty four hours, and there may be a time lag between the time the position is removed from the third party site and the updating of the BE database. Usually, this is not a major issue as the position will already have been listed on the BE and third party site for at least a week or more.
Occasionally we have a glitch in the system and there is an unusual number of expired positions. If you feel that you are seeing an unacceptable number of expired links please inform our System Administrator.
Currently, we don't have a resume database, though it is a service we plan to introduce in the near future. We still receive a number of unsolicited resumes which we keep on file, and we will likely contact the senders when we introduce this service to allow them to put their resumes on the database if they wish.
